After my hard drive died in this thing, i was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. When Eugene had to replace his cpu fan twice, i got a little wary. Now this? I'm going to give fujitsu the big ol' thumbs down.

| Hey there, I had a similar problem with mine also. I have the exact same laptop, fujitsu s2020 (AMD) processor. I also called fujitsu and got the same response. What I ended up doing was to unsolder the DC jack from the daughterboard, then I ordered a port-replicator from fujitsu. The port replicator costs $143.00, and it has a DC jack on the back of it.
I went to one of Fujitsu's support places here in Phoneix, AZ, and they wanted me to file for bankruptcy!(They were going to charge me anywhere from $200 to $500...eventhough I told the guy was was wrong with it) The guy there was beating around the bush with me, telling me that he has to remove this, and that, and all sorts...so I just left. I got the port replicator for much cheaper. The port replicator also has other ports(printer...etc) on there as well. It's very skinny and light. I have a very slim laptop bag, and it fits in there fine along with the power cables and all. I'm currently looking online for vendors who can sell me the DC jack...I haven't found one yet. I'm having a problem now with my cpu fan going crazy...I'm not sure whether or not it's due to the fact that it's an AMD, and it runs hotter, but the fan almost sounds like an engine. It goes on for long periods sometimes.

| Thanks for your comment! I ended up opening the thing up and resoldering the connector, and then i put a machine screw into the back of the socket. That fixed it. | |

| I had the exact same thing happen twice to me to my S6110 Lifebook. The 1st time a local authorized repair center said replaced the daughterboard (i guess they are available seperately) for a small $275.00!! I was in a jamb and just needed it back fast though so I piad and cried later...the second time is today, almost one year to the day since it was fixed. I'm either going to remove it myself and solder it this time or go buy a Mac LOL... What a useless design...

| wow.. i thought i am a 'beasty' laptop user for breaking the female dc jack of my s series laptop in this world. but somehow you guys got the same problem. so now i guess it is not my way-of-using it that cause the problem. but you guys are luckier since you know how to fix it yourselves, while i am sooo dumb with these things. i was thinking of buying the port replicator, but it will cost a student me like hell. plus, i am not sure how the replicator works, or whether it can solve the problem or not | |

| I know at least a half-dozen people with Fujitsu Lifebooks who've enjoyed fried CD drives, fried graphics cards, hard drive failures, power pack plug failures, frequent software freeze-ups, you name it.
I wouldn't take another one as a gift, much less buy one. :-( Here's the proof: I'd sooner buy a Compaq again than a Fujitsu. So there--- !!! :-P

| I had a Fujitsu but then I got a MacBook and I'm much more happy with it. Most Fujitsu software are pirated and infected with a spy program. Trust me, I went to this computer repair shop and after successfully removing a profanity virus, the man came up and said, "You do know you're being monitored online, do you?" | |

| Well that explains it!
I've been transferred to the UK from the good ol' USA and a few months into my stay the DC jack in the computer broke. At first, the little plastic sleeve around the center pin came off, which made the jack loose. Then, the jack itself became loose. Not having the IT support here and not wanting to risk being without my computer, I bought a very small Sony TX (which is awesome for a truly portable machine). I have a Fujitsu S6110 that has kind of been reliable for 3.5 years now. The HD crapped out about 6 months into my ownership but that was fixed under warranty. My only other problems have been the LCD backlight not working occassionally. It hasn't happened in about 6 months, so I don't know how much of an issue it is. The other thing is that I sometimes get a "thermal sensor error" when I boot up, causing the fan to be EXTREMELY loud. I just ordered the jack at laptopjacks.com. Though it seemed a bit pricey, it is much cheaper than the alternative. So in the end, it seems my trusty Fujitsu has more than one achilles heel and I would not recommend it to anyone I know.

| After owning many discount laptops I decide to "step up" and purchase a "top of the industry" Fujitsu . I purchased an N5010 three days short of two years ago.
As of today the local dealer tells me the motherboard is bad and suggests I purchase another computer since the cost of the motherboard is so great. This is after replacing the keyboard within the past year and the hard dive just a few weeks ago. Evidently the problem was due to the computer overheating. Not only am I livid that I paid for this laptop, but embarrassed that over the past year I've talked up Fujitsu enough that two friends bought one. Of all the laptops I've had this one the I traveled the least with and it lasted the shortest by two years. Don't waste your money on a Fujitsu!

| I came here because I am searching for a replacement CPU fan for my S2020 because it is getting loud and this site was on position 1 on google.
While I am here I might as well submit my own review about my good old S2020.... I am not sure how long ago I bought mine but my guess is about 5-6 years ago. I purchased it with extended warranty, 3 years total, because I am a computer technician and know how expensive laptop parts are so my advice is to never purchase a laptop without a 3 year warranty. About 2 years after owning mine it started to randomly turn the backlight off. I sent it to Fujitsu, they replaced the inverter but I had to sent it back in because it was not fixed. They replaced the screen and it has been working fine up until about two weeks ago, I am having problems again where the screen will turn off until I close the lid and reopen. My guess is that the bulb is getting bad again so once it breaks I will have to replace my bulb which is a pain in the ass but I can do that myself ... bulbs are about $10 But I also have problems with my CPU fan, it is making a knocking sound while running .... a sign of a failing CPU fan but after 5-6 years that is about to be expected. Overall the Laptop has worked pretty good but it has issues and I don't think that I would purchase another Fujitsu. I think my next one will be an IBM, they appear to make solid laptops or maybe a cheap oem like Dell with extended warranty ... not sure but the S2020 has design issues.

| I too found this site while researching replacement fans for an S2020 purchased in 2004. I will probably purchase a replacement fan from the eBay seller and replace it myself.
Having said that, I thought I would add my two cents in light of the above comments. I really have had no other problems with the machine until the noisy fan issue recently. My only modification was to add memory last year. While I bought this as a personal/home laptop, I went with Fujitsu because I expected as primarily a business-oriented vendor they would be more rugged and reliable than consumer oriented PCs you get at Best Buy or Sams Club. So far I have not been disappointed, and a number of small businesses I know which use Fujitsu speak highly of them.

| As a tech support agent that previously worked for fujitsu
I can tell you that the company cares nothing for you as a consumer The 555$ DC jack is a ripoff and the reason why it breaks is a bad design If you break your screen it is 755 Even better, key fall off your keyboard? 230$ tough shit, warranty? not covered by it. In our database they even had a part saying that accessories only have a one year warranty and are not affected by extended warranties UNLESS the customer quotes our website which says it does. Oh btw all tech support is now outsourced to the Phillipenes and the Canadian team is pulled on the 14th of july 2008. So as a former member of the tech support I would reccomend you buy an asus EEE or a Dell and get a decent warranty and good hardware support ( You can never really get quality Tech support but thats a different issue) Fujitsu NORTH AMERICA, is run by an incompetent fool who is either ignorant and dumb, the policies are retarded, and the database was programmed by a 3 year old, we really dont know whats going on with your repair for this reason :D. BTW the phillipinos make so many mistakes ex. setting up repair for low audio when the problem was a BIOS setting. setting up a repair for a software issue that a recovery would solve. Fujitsu has lost their tech support in CANADA, so if you purchased for that reason then you should not again. FUSHITSU SUCKS CACK

| @ Lee
You were infected because your a moron, most tech support problems are retarded people that use IE6 and call it the internet seriously if you were infected its your own retarded fault :) How do I know your incompetent? because you went to a computer repair shop and allowed them to perform a virus removal. Biggest waste of money ever.

| Any idea where I could track down a fan for a Fujitsu T4010? I've been on my high horse while my laptop chugged on for 4 years and my friends have had cascades of issues with their Dells and Gateways...then I come to find out that Fujitsu won't even sell the little rubber feet on the bottom to me. Ugh! | |

| I am also looking for replacement Fujitsu T4010 cpu fan. The current one started to make strange and loud noise when operating. Took it out and added some lubrication. Stupid thing do to. Don't do it. Apparently it shorted something on the fan PCB although I tried to avoid it running to pcb but..
Talking about overal quality of Fujitsu I think it has served me pretty well. Current fan problem is the first and only major hardware problem I have had so far. I have to agree about the thermal design. This is not so well engineerd. Fan control actually sucks. It starts the fan for few seconds, then stops, starts again after few seconds, etc. I use Notebook Hardware Control to make the fan behaviour somewhat better. New FS lifebooks (tablets specially) seem to have lost many good things that have been implemented in previous models. Maybe I'll start to look at IBM ( Lenovo ) for my next one. |
